Large Old Sheffield Plate Meat Cover.

Description

This fabulous extra large Old Sheffield Plate meat cover which dates from c1840 is made by Walker Knowles & Co and is an extra large size making it perfect for covering a big roast or Christmas turkey.

The handsome design of this meat dome looks super with it's pike crest and Capta Majora family motto to one side and a monogram on the other side.

Capta Majora and the pike crest being the Geddes family crest and means: Seek Greater Things.

Weight: 3.35 kg.

Marked: Maker's mark for Walker Knowles & Co.

Condition: Very good antique condition with signs of use in keeping with age. A few scratches, shallow dings, small marks and spots of tarnishing. Plate on the outside is in very good condition. Inside is nicely seasoned. Handle sits slightly uneven.
