In 1895 Colonel Lord William Leslie de la Poer Beresford VC was married to the Dowager Duchess of Marlborough, who occupied the Deepdene mansion and estate at Dorking, Surrey, where he lived until his early death in 1900.
Third son of the fourth Marquess of Waterford, he was a remarkable horseman, racehorse owner and a daring rider.
Both he and the Duchess were eventually buried in the Beresford family vault at Clonagam, Ireland.
