The design after the original French 12th century censer depicting ''The Hebrews in the Fiery Furnace''
The Youths were miraculously unhurt after being cast into the fiery furnace by King Nebuchadnezzar for refusing to submit to false idols.
The top of the orb with pairs of mythological beasts in arcades forming vents for the heat and smoke.
The figure of Christ sat above the Three Holy Youths, their names inscribed on curved ribbons: Azarias, Misael, Ananias
Latin inscription around the perimeter.
In excellent condition with no damage or repair, strong hinged lid and sound well
stained and well used fitted removable pottery ink pot liner,
could equally be used to burn incense.
