Description
Circa 1820, George IV brass inlay and mantel clock by Charles Valogne, London. With dome top and face with ‘Charles Valogne, No. 599, London’ enclosed by gilded and bevelled edge glass. The panel beneath with brass inlay and beading, and standing on squat, gilded feet; and the sides with cast brass handles over fabric backed fretted sound boards. Striking on a coil, with an 8 day fusee movement and precision pendulum. Charles Valogne (1849-1917) has been recorded as a clockmaker and watchmaker from 1881, and was listed in the Post Office London Commercial Directory (1843) as operating from 10 Church Street, Soho London.
