Description

A very fine antique Chinese Kangxi mark porcelain lidded jar finely hand painted in blue and white with insects and butterflies within a rocky landscape, probably dating from the early to mid 19th century. The rounded bulbous shaped jar is painted with various shrubs within a rocky landscape with a grasshopper perched on a fern, a dragonfly in flight with two playful butterflies. The scene is set between decorative borders. The cover, which is original to the jar, is painted with two panels, one with a shrub and the other with figures in a boat in a watery landscape with a further figure in a pagoda like building. The jar has a Kangxi four character mark to the base.
The jar is offered in good condition with the usual glaze fritting around the rim of the cover and to the top and foot rims of the jar with a very small chip to the top rim. There is also a glaze frit to the finial on the cover.
