Here we see one of the oldest examples of the many saddle-bags made by the Jaf - Kurds during the nineteenth century. The juxtaposition of the many 'birds-heads' lozenges is superb and the use of fabulous natural colours just glows. This is the remains of one half of a saddle-bag - face only - but what a magnificent example it is. Finely knotted with evenly-low pile, this was probably made during the second quarter to mid 19th century - no later. As a wall-hanging, this early bag-face would look amazing! Just an idea!!
