Description
An exquisite Antique mid Victorian brooch featuring a wonderful Micro Mosaic at the front depicting historic buildings, possibly in Rome. The level of detail in the mosaic is remarkable and the use of colour and shading is certainly the work of a true master of the art. Roman style Micro Mosaic's such as this are made up of unusually small pieces of glass (tesserae), or an enamel-like material, to make small figurative images which were sort after in the 19th century during the 'Grand Tour' days when tourists developed a fascination with destinations such as Rome.
The mosaic is inlaid in a blue glass setting and bordered in an 18ct Yellow Gold frame with 18ct Gold back as well. It’s in excellent condition and complete with its original box with a lovely velvet interior. We recommend you insure for £2000. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
Thank you.
