Description

This is a beautifully drawn and painted portrait of an old and sagacious looking countryman. He stands proudly holding his walking stick 'a clear reference to his age' although his clothes and hair are ragged he appears contented in his natural setting. The portrait is clearly by an accomplished artist, not unlike the work of John Linnell.
Pencil and watercolour on prepared board. Contained in a traditional rectangular black lacquered frame with gilt metal mounts and convex glass.
Miniature: 90 x 74 mm.
Frame: 140 x 118 mm.
