Below is a large central drawer, decorated with a Gilt Bronze mount of the Roman God Bacchus, flanked by three drawers pedestals. All drawers are mounted with the most elaborate, scrolling foliage handles and escutcheons. Each corner has an elaborate carved and chased figure of a lady and each foot terminates in a delightful lion paws foot. The end panels with beautiful contrasting veneers and central gilt bronze masks. The opposing side of the desk being replicated with faux drawers. All drawers have a lock and key, several having the retailers label still intact. The majority of the drawers are oak lined, always a sign of quality. The well-regarded furnishers ‘Au Gros Che^ne’ were situated in 12 Rue Drouot, Paris and today, the site is occupied by the Ho^tel Drouot, the exhibition center of the majority of French art auction houses. We date range this item from 1880-1900. The ingenuity of this cabinet maker is evident with the piece breaking down into four separate pieces for ease of transport and installation.
