A fine continental carved walnut and marble ecclesiastical cabinet, circa 1890. A beautiful statement piece in heavily carved walnut and inset marble panels. The upper cornice with central floral and marble decoration flanked by classical phoenix carvings. The main central cupboard with lock and key having carved cupid with bow and arrow to its panel. Above is a lovely carved winged putti. Below is a single drawer, again, mounted with beautiful green marble and having a central carved lions head with the most delicately carved shell and scroll below. The centre section is flanked by two pairs of Grecco Roman architectural columns with nicely detailed capitals. Inside the columns are concave niches or sconces. Perhaps once holding carved figures. We think this area would look great with candles. Below the niches are a pair of turned, tapered and cupped legs inside the columns. Both sides of the cabinet are fitted with locking cupboards, all three cupboards have an adjustable shelf. The whole standing on a stepped plinth base, a great display area for perhaps a sculpture, urn or floral display or maybe both! This is a beautifully carved and a well-made statement piece of furniture that can also provide storage and display space, having a good rich warm colour to boot.
