Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1890s.
The box comes complete with a working key fitting into the shield shaped brass inlaid escutcheon.
This pin keeps everything shut tight when locked.

The interior reveals the box casket is made from solid Oak underneath the Burr Elm veneer on the exterior. There are three compartments perfect for envelopes and perhaps personalised cards. The original inkwell remains in undamaged condition together with a lidded compartment for nibs, sealing wax and the like and an Elm sloped compartment for postage stamp. I have included the wooden handled dip pen too to finish the package.
A wonderful box in excellent condition, measuring 9" x 5" x 6 3/4" tall at rear.
