Antique 19th Century Oak Campaign Chest with Cupboard

Description

A large and impressive 19th century antique oak campaign chest cupboard with two blind cupboard doors to the top section with a shelved interior, an arrangement of five drawers to the middle section with the large central drawer having a fall front which creates a writing space with a fitted interior, the base has two long drawers. Each drawer is dressed with recessed brass handles. Splits into three parts for ease of transport. Believed to have belonged to Captain James Neish. Inside is a note that reads; ‘Captain’s Sea Chest. Captain James Neish. Died 1866. Probably “The Fort William”, Dundee, Scotland.’

CONDITION REPORT:

Our carpenter inspects, repairs and restores all our items, so you can have full confidence that what you buy from us is home ready!

In good antique condition throughout with some signs of age and wear. Structurally solid and sound. There have been a couple of honest repairs including replacement moulding to either side at the top of the middle section. There’s general surface wear throughout including some shrinkage splits. There’s a piece of beading missing at the base. Overall in good antique condition and a good example of a captain’s sea chest or campaign chest.
