Striking 18th century horn snuff box, English or European, circa 1780.
Rose engine turned horn or shell, a process using a complex lathe to produce relatively deeply cut elaborate guilloche decoration.
Copper gilt hinged bezel with decorative gold thumb piece.
Diameter 2,7/8'' or 74mm, height 1,5/8'' or 40mm, weight 99 grams.
A table rather than a pocket snuff box, the lid a good airtight fit.
In very good presentable condition, noting small tight hairlines emanating from some rivets, some wear and small infilled insect holes around the foot rim.
