Description

The weaving in this handsome salt-bag - 'namakdan' in Persian - is just incredibly fine bearing in mind it was woven in inhospitable conditions in Baluchistan around the early 20th century.

The weave is weft-faced plain-weave with weft-float brocade, the same on both faces and the bag is embellished with tassels and cowrie shells, symbolising good luck.
