Delightful 19th.c. miniature Aesthetic Movement oak cabinet, c.1860. Standing just 14" tall, probably produced as an apprentice piece, a demonstration of skill by a young cabinet maker. Ideal as a desktop stationery box or for jewellery perhaps. Featuring two doors with a single removable internal shelf over a small drawer. Fielded and intricately carved doors, with original brass escutcheons and hinges (made to the scale of the cabinet, a rarity). Panelled to the sides, with molded and chamfered edges all around, all raised on turned feet. Makers stamp on the drawer for Marsden & Banning, Manchester (known as Marsden, Banning & Dobb until late in 1862).
