Description

A fine early Carriage clock by Bolviller of Paris circa 1840-50. Bolviller are recorded as working in Paris between 1830-70. Bolviller are noted for making carriage clocks with fine and complex escapements. It should be noted they were working in the very early period of Carriage clocks along with the famous Paul Garnier, before the emergence of such names like Drocourt and Jacot.
The case is a one-piece type made from cast Bronze with polished higher details. The enamel dial with fine blued steel 'moon' hands is signed 'Bolviller a Paris' in the chapter ring. The jewelled lever escapement is the original with hand engraved platform and Balance cock and an unusual balance with counterweights. The clock is number stamped - 34 on the backplate. This fine 8-day movement with early countwheel and locking plate strike has been fully restored and serviced and hand polished. The back door is solid with cast decorations and winding shutters, all Bevelled white glasses have been removed and polished inside and out.
