Description

The 'bread sofreh' was used for kneading the dough to prepare the bread. They were generally caked in flour and until washed, the wonderful natural colours and simplistic symbolic designs were not seen. This is a beautiful bread sofreh made by Baluch nomads in Khorassan province, north-east Persia around 1900-1920 and is in excellent condition. I love the small knots of different coloured wool, probably inserted for good luck.
