PORTRAIT OF ' PRINCE' - A GUNDOG OIL ON CANVAS DATED 1900 COLIN GRAEME 1858 - 1910 Signed - Framed size 25 x 35.5 inches 64 X 90 cms Canvas size 20 x 30 inches 51 X 76 cms - A fine dog portrait painted by the renowned animal artist Colin Graeme. - Colin Graeme was born in the Sheffield area into an artistic family, the son of the artist Robert Henry Roe (1793-1880) and the brother of Fred Roe (1864-1947). He initially signed his work ‘Colin Graeme Roe’ but later dropped the surname ‘Roe’ in order to distinguish himself from other members of his family. - He was a highly gifted animal painter and he was perhaps best known for his excellent depiction of sporting dogs. - He also painted horse portraits and scenes of deer in the Scottish Highlands. A number of his works can be found at the Dudley Museum and the Sheffield Museum. - The painting is in good condition clean and stable. The mid 20th century swept gilded frame is in good condition. - Internal Ref: 71837
