Magnificent Victorian silver-plated mechanical wine cradle; these were designed so that the bottle could be gradually tipped downward, glassful by glassful, leaving any sediment at the bottom of the bottle so as not to spoil the wine in the glass. Civilised and amusing! This example is in full working order, the bottle is tipped by winding the handle, The bottle cradle and carrying loop are mounted on a "vine and leaf" pattern base in keeping with the wine theme.

These were very often French, but because of the outstanding quality of this particular piece it is undoubtedly English.
