Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian wine cooler, also known as a cellarette, is a dining room furniture piece designed during the eighteenth century to hold ice and cool wine bottles near the dining table.

Wine coolers from this period were typically constructed from solid and veneered mahogany, featuring brass side handles, wooden band inlay, and internal zinc or lead linings to contain moisture.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass drop handles with natural surface patination, hand-planed secondary woods, and evidence of historical lead lining removal or restoration.

An antique cellarette functions well as an occasional side table beside armchairs, as a freestanding corner accent in a dining room, or within a home library to store contemporary barware.

Dust mahogany surfaces regularly using a clean microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically along the grain, avoiding abrasive chemical solutions on metal components to preserve oxidisation.
