Worcester Porcelain Mug, C. 1754. Scratch Cross Period.

Description

An exceptionally fine Worcester porcelain mug, c. 1754, Scratch Cross period. The waisted mug, exquisitely painted in Chinese Yongzheng period style, with ‘Long Elizas’, in famille rose enamels. The ladies stand before a table, and stands. A large vase contains flowers, is placed next to the seated ‘Eliza’.

Having a grooved loop handle, and set upon a broad footrim, which encloses a glazed recess.

‘Scratched’ line incised to the footrim.

Height - 11.5 cm, 4 1/2”.

Diameter - 9.3 cm, 3 5/8”.

Condition - Perfect. No damage. No restoration.

The quality of painting of this pattern varies tremendously. This particular example is very finely executed, with particular attention paid to the ladies faces, and the gilding.
