Jos Damien was a painter of portraits, landscapes, flowers, genre scenes and historical paintings. He was the son of the painter François Damien.
In 1904, he competed for the Prix de Rome. He practiced mural art until 1912 and in 1913, a series of his paintings covered with embroidery, won first prize in the decorative arts competition in Paris. After the war, he specialized in portraiture (mainly the courts of Belgium and Luxembourg and painted several members of the royal family). Settled in Hasselt in 1911 where founded an Arts circlep.
He is mentioned in the Piron guide of the 19th and 20th century artists.
