Description

Edwards and Roberts Inlaid Mahogany Writing Table.

The style of this piece is frequently referred to as "Sheraton Revival"

Having 3 Mahogany Lined Drawers (the 2 end drawers being of a bow form) each drawer having Satinwood Crossbanding, ebony and boxwood line inlays and retain their pretty original handles and locks.

Standing upon Elegant tapered legs with Boxwood inlays and brass castors.

The Shaped top of the writing table having a multi reeded moulding and a Green Leather writing surface (replacement) with hand applied Gilt and Blind tooling.

Founded in 1845, Edwards and Roberts became synonymous with high quality furniture, both as cabinet makers, producing items to a very high standard using the finest timbers.

Their cabinet makers produced contemporary items as well as reproductions of earlier English and French pieces, favouring Georgian designs and satinwood marquetry. They were also known for adapting and restoring fine quality items worthy of their stamp.

By the late 19th century Edwards & Roberts was one of the leading firms of English cabinetmakers.
