Glorious, large, heavy, Victorian silver-plate banded, coopered oak jug / pitcher, circa 1880.
For water, milk, lemonade, ale etc., made for use in a grand house or big household.
Coopered highly polished honey coloured oak body.
Silver plated bands and mounts, detailed Bacchus mask spout, un-inscribed shield front and faux planked hinged lid.
The bottom band stamped with a cherub archer in a shield mark, for John Grinsell & Sons, Birmingham.
Typical white pottery liner.
Very minor shrinkage of the staves leaving small gaps, plate now mostly polished to the nickel under metal.
In excellent sound condition great to use or display.
