Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the early nineteenth century, Regency games tables were designed for popular parlour pastimes such as chess, cards, and backgammon. They typically feature fine veneers or faux-grain finishes, turned central pedestals, and compact footprints suited to flexible room arrangements.

Craftsmen frequently utilised dark hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, and walnut, often applying painted scumbling techniques to simulate exotic grains. Key details included gilded mouldings, brass castors, and precise marquetry or inlay for chessboard surfaces.

Authentic Regency pieces demonstrate hand-carved joinery, natural timber patination, and period-appropriate features like splayed legs and brass or gilded mouldings. The presence of hand-cut joints and authentic wear on the underside of the table top further confirms period origin.

Position the table in a reading nook, bay window, or beside an armchair to create a dedicated leisure area. Its compact proportions allow it to serve as a decorative focal point or functional side table within both traditional and eclectic spaces.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically to protect the timber finish. Avoid direct sunlight and maintain stable humidity levels to prevent the inlaid wood from warping or splitting.
