Christopher Dresser (attributed) 1882. Sugar basin in solid silver with bast covered handle, by Hukin & Heath. London Hallmarks for 1882/3.
Dresser produced a number of designs for this firm in the 1870s and early 1880s, including well known similar sugar basin with rolled rim. Most were plated but some in solid silver. Here the simple, Japanese style, with absence of decoration strongly indicates this is a design by Dresser himself.
Condition: No dents of repairs, original bast handle (often missing) has minor losses.
