An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Georgian Scottish sterling silver teapot; an addition to our 18th century silver teaware collection
This exceptional antique Georgian Scottish sterling silver teapot has an inverted pear shaped form onto a circular spreading foot, in the classic Georgian style.
The upper portion of this 18th century teapot is embellished with flat chased floral and fruit arrangements, incorporating a scrolling leaf bordered vacant cartouche to one side.
The upper rim of the body is ornamented with a shaped band of scalloped simplified leaf designs.
This antique silver teapot is fitted with a hallmarked, domed flush hinged cover surmounted with an impressive and original, cast sterling silver tiered floral bud style finial; the flush hinge indicates the high quality of the piece.
The cover is further ornamented with flat chased foliate designs to the rim and encircling the lower portion of the finial.
This exceptional example of antique teaware retains the original cast C shaped handle featuring a scrolling leaf thumbpiece; this leaf design continues to the upper socket.
This impressive example of antique silverware has a cast silver swan necked spout embellished with further flat chased foliate designs and applied leaf motif to the lip.
The applied socket of the spout is encompassed with further scalloped leaf designs, reflecting that of the upper rim.
The cast circular spreading foot is encircled with bands of tooled decoration, in addition to an applied moulded rim.
The underside of this 18th century silver teapot bears the engraved initials 'IS'.
This 18th century teapot is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
The interior of the teapot has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use.
The cast and flat chased decoration is all very sharp.
Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the body and part hallmarks to the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are deeply struck due to the superior gauge of silver.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of Georgian silverware
