Description

A rare and beautiful desk from the establishment of the famous violin bow maker Joseph Henry who was based in Paris on the rue des Vieux Augustins from 1851. Made in the French second Empire style this 5 drawer freestanding desk is constructed from good quality mahogany with very impressive ormolu mounts. The rectangular shaped top having canted corners with brass edging and a replaced tooled black leather writing surface. To one side are the graduated drawers with ormolu mounts and working locks with key. The reverse having stunning ormolu panels with musical instruments, drapes and organ pipes. The lower frieze with inlaid brass name of “HENRY A PARIS”. The desk is raised on ebonised lion’s paw feet and the whole is in very good condition. Dimensions:- Height…32.25’’/82.5cm. Width…54.5’’/ 138.5cm. Depth…24.75’’/ 63cm. Kneehole Height…26’’/ 66cm. Joseph Henry is considered to be one of the world’s finest bow makers and his bows are very rare and much sought after today.
