Description

Remarkable late 19th.c. Anglo Indian carved four panel screen or room divider c.1880. Over six feet tall in very heavy rosewood type hardwood timber. The frame is carved with a dense grape and vine pattern into which are set 12 carved and pierced panels to each fold. Alternating with the vine pattern is a more typically Eastern looking tree of life design – an interesting mix of styles typical of the colonial era furniture produced in India for European settlers. Pierced tops to each fold copying the design on the panels below, between shaped finials to the frame. Joined with steel hinges. Excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
