Description

Beautiful small pair oil paintings (near matched) on panel, both dating from around 1914. Both are seascapes, with a fishing boat out in a breeze off the Dutch Coast. These are in very good condition, recently cleaned and revarnished and ready to hang.
Both signed lower left H Hendrik, one dated 1914
Provenance.
The labels on the back are for Williams and Son (R G Williams), a fine art gallery in London with stock numbers 15726 and 15729. Roland G Williams was my husband Gordon's father and at that time the gallery was run by Roland and his other son John. We have checked the stock numbers and both these paintings were bought at the same auction 26th May 1964, lots 26 and 29 from Mak van Waay, auctioneers in Amsterdam. They would have been cleaned and framed by the gallery at that time.
Hendrik Hulk was Dutch painter and draughtsman, who settled in Haarlem in 1858. He was a pupil of his father A. Hulk. He painted mostly marine scenes. He exhibited in Arnhem, Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam.
Panel sizes 7 1/2" x 5 1/2" and 7 1/2" x 4 1/2" (approx 19cm x 14cm)
Framed sizes 10 1/2" x 7 1/2" and 10 1/2" x 7" (approx 27cm x 19cm)
Internal Ref: 120/20
