Charles Collins London Brass Microscope Boxed

Charles Collins student monocular microscope, circa 1880.
 
Engraved on the modified Crouch style foot;
 
C. Collins Optician 157 Great Portland Street London
 
Collins made the tube of these microscopes uncommonly large in diameter – this was so eyepieces from all his microscopes would be interchangeable.
 
Course and fine focus, sub stage stop wheel, 1/4? marked objective case with three stacked lenses, concave mirror and mahogany box.
 
In good working order showing typical signs of age and use, the body tube lacquer worn, no splits or perishing to the brass, the box with shrinkage split to the back.
 
The advertisement lists available accessories and prices.
 
Height of box 11,1/4? or 285mm.
 
Gross weight 2390 grams.
