Dealers Notes

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early 19th-century Portuguese furniture frequently incorporates Iberian and colonial influences, featuring dense tropical hardwoods like rosewood, elaborate turnery, and decorative brass mountings.

These tables were typically constructed from solid rosewood or mahogany, incorporating hand-turned legs, bobbin stretchers, and cast brass escutcheons or drop handles.

Authentic period pieces exhibit distinctive grain patterns of Brazilian rosewood, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, historical wear across the lower stretchers, and naturally patinated brass hardware.

Position the table centrally in an entrance hall, foyer, or library room to serve as a focal point, paired with neutral decor or contemporary lighting to complement the dark woodwork.

Maintain rosewood furniture by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, keeping the wood clear of direct heat sources and direct sunlight.
