Veerabathiran the warrior, an extremely fearsome form of the Hindu god Shiva.
Indian copper alloy/bronze relief plaque/ icon, circa 1800
Veerabhadra is holding a sword, an arrow, a bow and a shield.
At the base Virabhadra is flanked by Daksha with his rams head and Bhadrakali his consort.
The Sun and Moon signs are to indicate his eternal nature.
All in good sound condition, missing the cobra’s head at the top, one top corner bent the other part missing.
Typical wear from devotee frequent rubbing.
The surface with a rich warm brown patina and specks of verdigris.
