Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian tilt-top table features a circular or oval surface attached to a central pedestal column via a hinged latch mechanism. Designed during the 19th century, this mechanism allowed the table surface to fold vertically, enabling easy storage against a wall when not required for serving tea or display.

These tables were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and rosewood. The tilt mechanism beneath the tabletop typically incorporates brass latches or iron release fittings set into hand-turned timber pedestals.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut joinery, a functional brass or iron snap-latch mechanism beneath the table, and hand-turned column bases terminating in splayed tripod legs. Age-consistent wear, oxidation along the underside timber, and original polish refine authenticity.

Position the piece alongside an armchair or sofa to serve as an occasional drinks table. Alternatively, tilt the tabletop vertically to display the natural wood grain as a decorative feature in an empty corner or alcove.

Dust the polished surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax sparingly twice per year following the grain. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight, using coasters to protect the wax finish from liquids.
