Fine Pair Minton Porcelain Vases & Covers, C. 1830.

Description

An exceptionally fine and sumptuous pair of Minton porcelain ‘New Vases’, c. 1830. The Campana shaped pedestal vases, beautifully hand painted with titled scenes of revelling couples, wearing 18th Century costume, and representing The Four Seasons, within elaborately moulded scroll panels. Set above panels of fruit, on a cobalt blue ground. Both vases having highly gilded scroll handles.

The covers painted with panels of flowers, and surmounted with cherub finials, carrying garlands of flowers and wearing drapes painted with fruit and flowers.

Probably painted by John Simpson, and gilded by John Robins.

Height - 42.5 cm, 16 3/4”.

Width - 25.3 cm, 10”.

Depth - 23.5 cm, 9 1/4”.

Condition - Excellent condition. No restoration.

Literature- ‘Minton Pottery & Porcelain of the First Period 1793 -1850’. Similar examples illustrated on the dust cover, and Fig. 122, along with an archive drawing from the ‘Minton Book of Ornamental Shapes, no. 219.
