18th Cent Carved Oak 8 Day Long Case / Grandfather Clock

18th century
Description

A charming little carved oak longcase clock by Edward Hann, Coventry. It dates from around 1750 and has the unusual feature of having starting off life as a 30 hour clock but the original movement was later converted to 8 day duration with the addition of two wings housing the 8 day barrels. This is an unusual approach as most conversions consisted of an 8 day movement from another clock being grafted on to the original dial. There is a label inside the door claiming this was carried out in 1907.

The slim oak case has nice crisp carving (possibly carved later), is in good condition and is a good colour. There is a fine shrinkage crack to the base and it has the usual signs of age and use.

The movement is in good condition, running well and keeping good time.

The maximum dimensions are:

201cm (79") high

54cm (21") wide

29cm (11") deep

Free local delivery and setup (50mls), national and international delivery arranged at cost
