Antique Military Bed Box

1900 - 1920
Description

An early 20th Century "Bed Box", so called because it's narrow size enabled it to be stored below a bed. It would have likely belonged to someone in the military and stored their kit and personal items. It has an old paper postage label on the front "On His Majesty's Service" from when the box was returned to the soldier's home. It is excellent quality and very well made with dovetail joints and a plinth base. It has it's original metal carrying handles and metal strap hinges. It also comes with its original working key.

It is in good condition for its age. It is strong and sturdy and generally clean and tidy inside. It is a well travelled piece and as such there are signs of use and age, lots of marks and knocks but no major damages or anything detrimental and it has a wonderful aged patina. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
