Georgian Mahogany Chest on Chest

18th century
Description

A fine example of a Georgian mahogany Tallboy dating from the late 18th / early 19th century. This impressive piece is in good original condition with its original brass swan neck handles. It is well balanced, simple in design with greek key molding below the cornice and the whole piece sits on bracket feet. The lower section contains three graduating drawers and the top section contains two short over three long drawers. The top section comes off to split the piece into two to make transport easier.

The whole piece is in good original condition and has developed a beautiful patina with a deep rich colour. It is strong and sturdy and drawers are generally clean and tidy and all run well, many having had their runners recently replaced or repaired. There are general signs of age and use, some minor knocks and marks and some small old splits in the sides but nothing detrimental. There is a small chip at the back of the middle piece of molding (see photo) but otherwise no major damages and it displays beautifully.

The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask. Free local delivery within 10 miles of Ashburton. Nationwide delivery available and regular deliveries to London for a good price, please get in touch for an accurate quote.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
