Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian drinks cabinets, often adapted from credenzas or glazed cupboards, emerged in the late 19th century as dedicated furniture for housing spirits and glassware. They typically feature fine wood veneers, glass doors, and decorative carved crestings or integrated mirrors.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from solid timber or softwood framing veneered with figured walnut, such as burr or walnut swirl. Mirror glass, mouth-blown cabinet window glass, and brass ironmongery were standard components.

Authentic Victorian pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, original glass displaying minor imperfections, and cast brass locks or latches. Look for natural ageing on the timber interior and dark oxidisation within unpolished recesses.

Place the cabinet in a dining room, living space, or hallway as a focal storage piece. Style the internal shelves with crystal glassware and decanters, while using the top surface for table lamps or floral displays.

Keep the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting and wood fading. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish twice a year along the direction of the wood grain.
