Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A centre table is a piece of furniture designed to sit in the middle of a room or grand hall rather than against a wall. During the 19th century, these tables frequently featured tilt-top mechanisms allowing the top to be pivoted vertically for storage when extra floor space was required.

Cabinetmakers primarily constructed these tables using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and walnut. Decorative surfaces often incorporated fine flame mahogany veneers, satinwood crossbanding, and cast-iron or brass caster fittings beneath the base.

Authentic pieces feature period joinery including hand-cut dovetails or block mounts beneath the tabletop, original brass tilt catches, and natural wear or shrinkage marks along the grain. The timber underneath is typically unpainted and shows aged patina.

In contemporary spaces, a centre table functions as an entryway feature table or an focal occasional table in a large living room. When rotated to its upright position, the prominent wood grain creates a sculptural display against a feature wall.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax once or twice a year following the timber grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and heat radiators to prevent wood warping or finish drying.
