Description

This handsome bag which might have contained wooden spindles, water pipes or even tent-pegs, was woven by Bakhtiari nomads in the Chahar Mahal region of western Persia during the last quarter of the nineteenth century. Each face is equally superb having a depiction of fat birds - typical of Bakhtiari design. I haven't seen a spindle-bag like this before and I would stab a guess that it is a fairly rare weaving in today's market-place!
