Rare and early Victorian silver ''MacNeills Patent Stamp Applicator''.
 
Hallmarked London 1869, makers mark R.H probably for Robert Hennell III
 
Opposing spring loaded plates allow the loading of a stack of postage stamps enabling application directly onto the envelope.
 
The top plate with a bust of Queen Victoria, ''Patent'' and M monogram for MacNeill.
 
The plain bottom plate held by four tabs which retain the stamps.
 
1,1/16'' x 7/8'' x 5/16'' or 27mm x 22.3mm x 8.8mm weight 13.5 grams
 
All in very good condition with no damage or repair.
