Rare Victorian Silver "Lyre" Table Candlestick by the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company, London 1896

Description

This unusual and elegant sterling silver table lyre candlestick is inspired by a Neo classical Georgian design. It was made in London in 1896 by the reputed Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company. The body in the form of a lyre or harp with two scrolled supports framing four wires representing the strings.

Raised on a reeded oval base.

Loaded and base with green felt.

Hallmarks:

WG over Jl for the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co

(William Gibson & John Lawrence Langman)

London Assay mark.

Date letter "T" for 1896.

Lion Passant.

Dimensions:

Height: 20 cm high / 8 inches.

Base: 11cm x 9xm / 4.4 x 3.4 inches.
