Large 17th Century Carved Oak Coffer

A large antique late 17th century carved oak coffer with decorative geometric panels, the middle of which bearing the initials and date ‘M S 1696’, having two drawers with moulded fronts to the bottom. The lid is hinged with old iron hinges which have been replaced at some point in time. The front of the coffer is also hinged and can be dropped down however the front has been fixed in placed (can be undone if desired). The back of the coffer is panelled.

In good antique condition throughout with some signs of age and wear. There have been some honest repairs and alterations over the years. Replacement hinges, replacement bottom. Some evidence of old historic worm in places including the drawer linings. Overall a good example of a large antique oak coffer.
