Early 17th c English brass and wrought iron warming pan, with a pierced and decorated brass lid. The outer inscription is still clear " Saint George for England", the central decoration has been largely polished out over the years but the date is still legible (but not clear in the photographs) : 1631. The style, materials and decorative pattern applied to the lid is typical of pans of this period in the early part of the 17th century.
The lid is solid to the pan which is complete and is free from holes. The handle is also secure to the pan. The end of the handle has worn and it currently has a piece of wood in it to enable it to be hung.
