High-quality cast bronze figure of the winged god of the harvest and agriculture, Cronos or Saturn .

The circular base with an intricate cast edge of classical motif decoration , the centre of the base with concentric circular rings. The wings with particularly fine cast detail .
Revered and worshipped by both the Greeks and the Romans , who held a week-long celebration in December known as Saturnalia to celebrate him . It is thought this was the predated celebration of the harvest which the Christian calendar adopted as Harvest Festival or the Christmas period.

In excellent original condition with a rich consistent patination and colour . Both arms cast in section and with minor opening of the joints , a casting technique referred to as ‘Roman jointing’ . The loose scythe gripped through the left hand can be adjusted to angle and position.
