Japy Frères Ormolu and Sèvres Porcelain Antique French Clock

19th century
Description

~ French - Circa 1890 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A stunning original antique French clock by the famous maker Japy Frères. It is Louis XVI in style, mounted with exquisite Sèvres style porcelain. This has a cream ground delicately painted a scene of a young couple. The lower panel and the urn finial also have beautifully painted country scenes.

The dial is porcelain and is painted with a cherub with a lute and music. Above the dial is a quiver of arrows and a flaming torché, allegorical of love, The bezel is fitted with convex glass.

The French movement is of high quality and is by Japy Frères. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a sonorous coiled gong. Click the video clip to hear the gong and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration. Porcelain is in very good condition with rubbing to the over-glaze gilt decoration and the occasional mark.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
