A George III Mahogany Clothes Press Possibly By Thomas Chippendale

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Ron Green

This antique has been viewed 14 times in the past month with the most views from France.

The pair of solid mahogany doors enclose an interior that would have originally had five pull-out shelves, but has since been converted to hanging. The drawers are lined in oak and retain their original brasses, raised on bracket feet supported by stacking blocks - a common trait in Chippendale's work.
White chalk inscription 'Knights' underneath the base.
"In my opinion, this is a perfect example of utilitarian Georgian furniture - great timber, functional and strong. Chippendale has a way of making, what should typically be boring pieces of furniture, very pleasing."
English, c.1765
