Marked with David Joels label to the back.
The table, with curved edges drops down on both sides, to provide extra space if required. The method to extend the table is a design feature in itself.

The four chairs, Including one carver, have recently been reupholstered by the previous owner, with the material in excellent condition.
David Joel was the joint founder of the distinguished Betty Joel firm. When his wife retired, he purchased the factory in 1937 to manufacture as David Joel Limited.
Like Betty he designed many beautiful pieces of furniture, often using the best materials available. He used many woods from the British Empire, including Canada, Australia, British Honduras, West Africa and in this case India. Indian Laurel is a close grained heavy wood, dark walnut in colour, and in the solid the waste factor makes it expensive.
