Antique French Louis Xv Style Ormolu Rococo Clock Set

19th century
Description

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A very fine ormolu Rococo clock set by Charles Hour. It is beautifully modelled in the Rococo style of Louis XV in Ormolu (finely gilded bronze). Beautiful balloon shaped case with acanthus to the shoulders and a Rococo flourish to the top. Sound fretted are fitted to the front and sides. It stands on it's original integral base with boldly scrolling feet, a reflection of the pendulum swinging can be seen in the highly polished centre of the base.

The candelabra have three branches formed of scrolling acanthus with leafy drip trays, set on foliate scroll moulded bases. The porcelain dial has a separate minute ring and is complete with it's original finely fretted gilt hands.

The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is an old replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video available of the clock running, please ask and we will send you a link.

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition just some tiny nibbles next to the winding holes. We have replaced the fabric fitted behind the sound frets.

The bezel is marked for maker / retailer Charles Hour.

Hour then associated himself with Maurice Lavigne and by the end of the XIX C, Hour Lavigne was the largest clock and timepiece manufacturer in France with over 800 employees.
